The Panhandle
Golden Gate Park, between Oak and Fell Streets

A strip of park just a few blocks north of Haight. It was the scene of many small concerts during the `60`s. It was also where the Diggers provided Free Food each day at 4 P.M.

Big Brother and the Holding Company. and the Grateful Dead played a concert here on October 6,1966. That was the day the feds outlawed  LSD. Ken Kesey, who was a fugitive at that time made an appearance and escaped before he could be captured by the FBI.

One of the best times I had here  here was in June 1967 when Jimi Hendrix  rocked us using equipment that he borrowed from the Jefferson Airplane.
